| Looking to get a handgun for Concealed Carry |
|
|
| I am looking at getting a springfield XD for concealed carry, but I am not sure what to get. The 9mm is more affordable and cheaper to shoot. I have heard that the 45 is better because it has more power, but it seems a little big to carry. Any suggestions? |

| Very expensive (1200 to 1300) but a Springfield EMP is a awesome gun for concealed or open carry. |

| I chose the KelTec PF9 for a concealed carry piece. American Rifleman gave it high marks in a comparison of concealed carry weapons. It is the lightest thinnest 9mm on the market. Very inexpensive, easy to handle and reliable. I got the gun, extra mag, IWB holster, 50 round box of 115g FMJ and 20 rounds of 124g JHP for under $400. Less than most hand guns in the same class. Get Some has them in stock. Besides it is made in the US and the XD is made in Croatia. |

There is little difference in price between a Springfield XD-9 (9 mm) and Springfield XD-45 (.45 ACP). Likewise, they are the same size, but the magazine capacities differ between the two due to the larger size of the .45 ACP. I own one of each and use the same holster(s) for them. Both of mine are "Service Models" (4 inch barrel), but the compact and subcompact versions are also available.
Another poster mentioned the Springfield EMP (formerly Springfield Officer's Ultra Compact). I have one of those too (.45 ACP) and it is awesome, but considerably more expensive then the Springfield XD line. |

Hey man, don't hack eastern european made firearms. They have been killing each other and finding ways to do it better alot longer than we have and much more continuously. They can and do make some sound guns, just look at CZ, made in the zcech republic.
The XD has a higher bore radius than other popular polymer concealable pistols such as the m&p or the glocks. You might consider looking at a .40 if you think a .45 is too large for carry, same size as a .9 but packs more of a punch. Also, consider why you want to carry a gun and what else you want to do with it. No matter what anyone says, shooting a KelTec PF9 is not going to be as enjoyable as shooting an XD9 because they were made to be small, not pleasant to shoot. If you are going to carry a gun on your person, you really aught to be proficient with that weapon. How can you be proficient with a weapon that you hate to shoot? Just food for thought. |
