Repeal GCA '68
Modified By MikeyMetro on 4/12/2010 8:32:56 AM)
The Gun Control Act of 1968 is a slap in the face to the original intent of the 2nd ammenment to the U.S. constitution. I have a BA in history (since my retirement working on my masters) on my wall of framed papers. The original intent of "the Right to Bear Arms" was so that independent groups (state, local or private) could form militias of equal federal military technology to defend those groups from oppression from any source; including the federal goverment. Prior to the Civil War the U.S. military was tiny (in fact the largest part on the federal payroll was the U.S. Navy and Marines) compared to all the militias. It was these militias that made up the bulk of our fighting forces during the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary war, the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War. After WW1 it was decided to combine all the remaining militias into State run National Gaurd. Unfortunately the NG has become little more than the lap-dog of the U.S. military. Need proof... just call the Govenors office and ask if he has the power to recall all NG troups home from Iraq and Afganistan.

This is just one more case of changing the constitution by congressional law, supreme court rulings or presidential executive order instead of by ammendment as was originally intended by our founding fathers.

Some folks counter that there are enough legally armed citizens to prevent any type of police state from happening here. Guess again because most of these citizens lack traing and orginization. If you do not think these are important please read "Mao Tse-Tung on Guerrilla Warfare" translated by Brig. Gen. Samuel B. Griffith, USMC (ret.) He published this book in 1961 (perhaps as a caution to us getting involved in S.E. Asia) and was a text at the academies for some time. (side note: Chairman Mao got a lot of his ideas from Gen. George Washington's writings.) Also if you want want more proof ask me why Switzerland has been a nuetral country for centuries.

I would urge all firearm enthusiasts to contact thier locall congressmen and senators (and the NRA, although this is already on thier to-do list) to repeall GCA '68. I have been doing this a couple times a year for a long time (just did it again, that what made me think to write this post.) If we need firearm regulation of any kind it should come from the states.
